Oct 18,25 Nov 1, 8 Van Gogh in France and his contemporaries Van Gogh shifted places quite often, motivated by different themes for his art, influence of art communities, and his survival. It was often exciting discovering these new influences: Shadow theatre in Paris, a plethora of Portrait styles, and impressionism. Finally another move to Provence, Van Gogh painted from timelessly beautiful nature, reflecting both the stark pure primary/secondary colors of sky and countryside. In this study we will create our own whimsical self portraits, create Shadow Theatre, and Starry Night Peep boxes, and make an impressionistic painting choosing one perferred style. Nov 15, 22, Dec 6, 13 Provence: Flowers, Landscapes & Village Scenes, and Crossroads Continuing with Van Gogh as our chief guide, we will immerse ourselves in the colors of the French life of Provence and explore other artist's work as well. Finally, we pause at Saints Marie de la Mer on the coast, where the Roma (Gypsy) community converges for a great festival. (The life a the Roma artist will be the next thread for the new year 2014 classes.
